| Description | The southern part of this grid-square is largely occupied by clay quarries on both sides of Langhurstwood Road. Here a pit which closed in c.1993 is being used by Biffa Waste Services Ltd to dispose of household and commercial rubbish. The indescribable smell emanating from the tonnes of decaying rubbish being buried here is locally famous and something of a sore point among those who live nearby. Taking this photograph was unpleasant to say the least. |
