| Description | The village seen from near the summit of East Lomond. Falkland Palace isalmost central in the photograph. The large industrial buildings nearer the camera to the south of the town are St John's works. This began as a power-loom factory producing coarse linen in the mid 19th century. In 1919 it was converted to produce floor cloth. A new section equipped with modern machinery for making linoleum was opened by the Scottish Co-operative Wholesale Society Ltd in 1934. By 1966 no one wanted linoleum and the factory was up for sale. Now with further extensions, it is producing paper bags. |
