Description The Geologist James Hutton was born in a house on this site. He is known as the ,"Father of Modern Geology" and wrote of his theories after observing the horizontal sedimentary rocks overlying the vertical schists at Siccar Point on the Berwickshire coast. An area known as "Hutton's Unconformity". There is also a section of the nearby Salisbury Crags known as "Hutton's section". He wrote his seminal work, "A Theory of the Earth" which forms the basis of modern geology in this house in 1785. -"We find no vestige of a beginning o prospect of an end" - James Hutton
