Former 'Brine Board' offices

Submitted by Andrew Fielding
Name Former 'Brine Board' offices
Distance 0.04 miles from CW9 5JA
Description This early reinforced concrete building was built as the offices of the Cheshire Brine Compensation Board. A Brine (Subsidence) Compensation Act was passed in 1891 to allow compensation to owners of buildings damaged by subsidence caused by the pumping of 'wild brine'. The building is now used as a solicitor's office. The Brine Board is still in existence, though no 'wild brine' is now pumped. The building is on what is now called Chester Way.
