| Name | Hove Lagoon |
| Distance | 0.02 miles from BN3 4LS |
| Description | This is the smaller of the two boating lakes and is largely used for either paddling or model boats. The area was once marshy ground a remnant of the old course of the River Adur whose mouth was near Hove until the late 18th century and wasn't drained until the 1920s. In 1930 the area opened as a park with two boating lakes and the layout has pretty much remained the same over the following 80 years. During World War Two the boating lake was used to test tanks and other vehicles were waterproofed sufficiently by getting them to drive through it. The days of "Come in number 5 your time is up" may now be over but the lagoon is still used for watersports and is a popular and safe place for children to learn to windsurf and sail. The current water levels are quite low as the lagoon has recently had leaks and needs fixing for the spring. Water is normally pumped in from the sea. |
